The Z-module control processor 270(ZCP270)is an optional fault-tolerant Z-factor controller.This ZCP270 performs regulation,logic,timing,and sequential control communication module(FCM)and fieldbus module connected to the fieldbus.It also performs data collection and alarm detection and notification.ZCP270 is connected to the MESH control network and FCM100Ets/FCM100Es through standard fiber optic 100Mbps Ethernet.The FCM100Et is connected to the 2 Mbps module fieldbus FBM used in the 200 series and the FCM100E to the 268 Kbps fieldbus used in the 200 series FBM or 100 series FBM.Based on size considerations,the ZCP270 can be used with a mixture of FCM100E and FCM100Et for the module.
The fault-tolerant version of ZCP270 includes two single width processor modules.These modules are installed in adjacent ZCP270 slots in 1x8 or 2x8 and connected to fault-tolerant connector modules that allow for high-speed communication.

The unique and patented fault-tolerant operation ZCP270 with enhanced reliability(fault tolerance)is compared to other process controllers.The fault-tolerant version of ZCP270 consists of two modules in parallel,with two sets of Ethernet connections to the MESH network,two for the control network and two for the fieldbus network.Two ZCP270 modules,combined as fault-tolerant pairs,provide continuous operation of the controller under the following conditions:almost all hardware failures occur in one module.
Both modules receive and process information simultaneously,and the fault is caused by the module itself.One of the important methods for fault detection is to compare messages from external interfaces of communication modules.Only when both exist will the message leave the message that the controller agrees to send(bits indicate a bit match).After detecting a fault,self diagnosis is run by two modules to determine which module has a defect.Then,the defect free module assumes control without affecting normal system operation.
