Product Description
The HP E1406A command module is the foundation of the VXI bus system.Although its role in the VXI bus system is largely transparent(for example, users do not need to program its functions),it provides the following key functions:
Convert the SCPI(Programmable Standard Command Instruments)command.
Provide VXI bus slot 0 and resource manager functionality.
Can drive VXI bus TTLTRG0-7 and ECLTRG0-1 trigger lines. This module contains an SMB connector for placing external triggers, which routes internal triggers to devices external to the host.
Contains an internal clock that can be used to set and read time and date.
It is the interface from the Hewlett Packard Interface Bus(HP-IB)to the VXI bus.
The HP E1406A command module occupies a C-type mainframe slot. The panel has signalers, clock and trigger connectors, interface ports, and extraction rods.
Panel Annunciator
There are four alarms on the HP E1406A panel, displaying the following information:
The failed display command module's power on failed self check or stopped working at a certain point in time.
SYSFAIL displays the SYSFAIL line on the VXI bus backplane, which is asserted by the command module when it fails.
The Access display command module is accessing or accessing the VXI bus backplane.
The ready display command module is in the normal operating state of the VXI bus.
Command module memory
The HP E1406A comes with 512 KB of RAM and 1.25 MB of flash memory at the factory. The HP E1406A option 010 offers 1.75 MB flash ROM and 1MB RAM.
For applications that do not require shared RAM,non volatile RAM requires an additional 512 KB of RAM and 512 KB of installed flash ROM.
Battery powered function
HP E1406A clock and calendar functions, user non volatile RAM(NRAM),and device driver RAM(DRAM)are backed up by NiCad batteries. For systems with 512 KB of memory, this battery has a lifespan of 10 months and has been continuously connected to the host and power for 15 hours while the command module is in operation. This has a lifespan of 2.5 months for systems with 1MB RAM and 2MB RAM.
The resource manager in the HP E1406A command module performs the following system configuration sequence when powered on:
Identify all static and dynamic configuration plug-in modules installed in the C-size host.
Set up a commander/servant hierarchy module for one or more plugins to control other plugin modules.
Perform A24/A32 address mapping so that the module requires additional addressing to receive it.
Allocate interrupt lines to manage communication processor modules and interrupter modules between interrupts.
Start system operation.
Once the power on sequence is completed and the system starts, the resource manager will no longer be used.
