  The compact FBM218 module provides redundant modules for eight output channels,with each module providing 4 to 20mA output signals or digital HART superimposed on 4 to 20mA analog output signals®Signals(these signals are electrically compatible).The compact HART communication redundant output interface module(FBM218)includes eight isolated output channels.The Compact FBM218 supports any combination of standard 4 to 20mA devices and HART devices,and is part of the Compact 200 Series I/O subsystem described in the Overview of the Compact 200 Series I/O Subsystem(PSS 41H-2COV).A pair of modules are combined to provide redundancy at the Field Bus Module(FBM)level,and the field output signal is connected to a universal terminal component(see Figure 1,page 4).In this configuration,one Compact FBM218 is the Master and the other is the Tracker.Compact FBM218 can be used as a host for HART communication field devices,enabling Foxboro?DCS requests and receives two digital messages per second from on-site devices.The messaging function can support HARTUniversal,common practices,and device specific commands,but cannot support burst communication mode.These commands are executed by FoxboroDCS HART field device experts.For more detailed information,please refer to the HART Device Control and I/O Field Device Expert(PSS 41S-10FDMHRT).This module provides an isolated power supply for each channel.

  The compact design of the compact FBM218 is narrower than the standard 200 series FBM.It has a sturdy exterior of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS)for physical protection of circuits.According to ISA standard S71.04,the housing designed specifically for installing FBM can provide various levels of environmental protection,up to harsh environments.

  The redundancy of highly reliable module pairs,coupled with high fault coverage,provides very high subsystem availability.Any module can be replaced without sending an additional setting field signal to another module.Modules can be removed or replaced without the need to remove on-site equipment termination cables,power or communication cables.

  If a fault is detected in one of the modules,the redundant analog output will be driven to 0 mA,and the corresponding channel in the good module will automatically continue to provide appropriate current to the output current circuit.Each output channel drives an external load and produces an output of 0 to 20 mA.The output is combined in series through redundant adapters.The microprocessor of each module executes simulated I/O applications and verifies the safe path of FBM operation.The configurable options for output safety in the module include fault safe action(hold/fall back),analog output fault safe fall back data(based on multi-channel),fieldbus fault safe enable,and fieldbus fault protection delay time.The analog output fail safe fallback data option must be set to 0 mA output.This will remove one of a pair of redundant output channels from the service to address detectable issues such as the module not receiving the output signal correctly or failing the security test of writing the output register to the FBM microprocessor.Setting the analog output fault protection fallback data option for 0 mA output can also minimize the possibility of"high fault"results.

  The light emitting diodes(LEDs)on the front of the visual indicator module provide visual indications of module operation status and channel communication activities.The other two indicator lights provide the main status or tracker status of the module.

  Easy to disassemble/replace modules are installed on a compact 200 series backplane,which is installed horizontally or in a rack,including signal connectors for redundant fieldbuses,redundant independent DC power supplies,and termination cables.The two screws on the FBM secure the module to the Compact 200 series substrate.Redundant modules must be located adjacent to each other on the substrate,with the first module located in an odd number of positions(such as positions marked"3"and"4").To achieve redundancy,a redundant adapter module is placed on two adjacent backplane termination cable connectors to provide termination for a single cable.A single terminated cable connects from a redundant adapter to the relevant termination component(TA).Modules can be removed/replaced without the need to remove on-site equipment termination cables,power or communication cables.

  The redundant 2 Mbps module fieldbus interface used by the fieldbus communication module or control processor and FBM.The Compact FBM218 module accepts communication from any path(Aor B)of the redundant 2Mbps fieldbus-if one path fails or shuts down at the system level,the module will continue to pass through the active path
