  FBM216B FOXBORO Redundant Hart®The communication input module is used to receive and process analog and digital signals of the Hart protocol,and transmit data to the control system or upper computer software.

  The FBM216b Hart communication redundant input interface module includes separate isolated input channels.It supports any combination of standard 4 to 20 mAddevices and Hart devices(signals are electrically compatible).

  A pair of modules are combined together to provide redundancy at the fieldbus module(FBM)level,with field inputs connected to a common terminal component(see Figure 1,page 4).In this configuration,one FBM216b is the main and the other is the tracker.

  FBM216b can serve as the HARTcommunications field device host and enable Foxboro?DCS requests and receives two digital messages per second from on-site devices.The message passing function can be used to support general,practical,and device specific commands for Hart,but does not support burst communication mode.These commands are implemented using Foxboro DCSField Device Expert for Hart.

  FBM216b provides a separate isolated power supply to power each of the eight channels.

  Alternatively,the channels of this module can be powered by an external power source.However,when a public external power supply is used with two or more channels,a cable balun module is needed to help prevent HARTcommunication channel crosstalk
