  MODBUS RTU is a widely spread standard protocol due to its ease of use and reliability.Modbus RTU is an open serial(RS-232 or RS-485)protocol with a source autonomous/slave architecture that exchanges information in half duplex mode.The Modbus function can be configured on the COM ports of AC 800M and CI853.Module redundancy is not provided in MODBUS RTU.CI853 only supports the main mode in MODBUS RTU.

  Custom serial communication can be used for built-in COM3 ports(on AC 800M controllers)or for CI853 ports.

  The CI853 module also supports hot swapping.
